City of Pembroke Pines City Center

Dear Readers:

I am sure that by now you have heard the exciting news about the City of Pembroke Pines City Center.

A Pembroke Pines resident who is the owner of Pas Meedia, a feature film and television production company, met with me to discuss a venture in our City Center to develop a film and television studio. The concept is cerrtainly different from the one that we have been working on, but nonetheless an exciting venture.

Pas Media and Studio of America plan to purchase a siggnificant portion of the land at City Center. This will innclude a studio for filming, and a studio for television prooduction; a Latin Museum, and a conference center; an amphitheatre, a three-star hotel which could provide a location for extended stay for employees; and a five-star hotel for actors in town for filming. City Center would need a different land use designation than we currently have. The studios also plan to have retail and restaurant facilities, which the public will be able to frequent at will.

The studios will have the only webcast capability in the country for the activities in the center. The construction project team involved in the development is LEED-certified to assure that the buildings are built to current green enviironmental standards. We passed the concept at a Commisssion meeting 5-0 to proceed with negotiations on a price and for due diligence. I believe that the land use changes that are needed will take about a year and a half but this does not mean that the project cannot begin. I have asked that in negotiations we discuss that they build a new city hall for us. The excitement that has been generated has caused other developers to call us about the land the stuudios do not want, such as some of the out parcels. The synnergies that this project has started are amazing and hopeefully this venture will be successful.
